Artist statement
Every work begins away from the screen - a drawing, a colour sketch or a mark made by hand.
Meyer Vault is the art practice of Paal Myrvold. It includes wall-based works, photographic and digitally developed series, large-format editions, sculpture and freestanding totems.
Photography may become a surface. Drawing and acrylic structures may be rebuilt digitally. Clay, epoxy, gold leaf and metallic composites become vessels, figures and totems.
Across those shifts, the recurring concerns remain constant: human presence, light, restraint, movement, imperfection and the emotional atmosphere a work creates around itself.
Inside the practice
Looking, making, rejecting, returning.
The studio is where an initial impulse is tested until it becomes unmistakably part of Meyer Vault. Images and objects develop through repeated choices rather than a fixed sequence.
Traditional materials and digital tools move through the same process: direction, selection, alteration and resolution. What matters is not which tool enters first, but whether the final work carries presence.
